Women in Construction: SPARK Training

Are you, or do you know, a woman who is interested in getting into the Construction industry here in the ACT?  Our next Women in Construction Information Session is in 21 days time!

 

The Ginninderry SPARK Training and Employment Initiative proudly supports training and employment opportunities for local people in the Capital Region.

SPARK in partnership with Australian Training Company (ATC), Creative Safety Initiatives (CSI, RTO CODE - 88216), Lendlease and The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT, RTO CODE – 0101) are proud to launch this new innovative training program to encourage more women to consider a career in the construction industry through a traineeship or apprenticeship pathway.

Specifically targeting women (17 years and over) from the ACT, this program will deliver:

  • Operate elevated work platforms (CPCCCM3001)
  • Work safely with asbestos containing materials (NAT10852001)
  • Identify and report asbestos containing materials (ASBIRA001)
  • Provide First Aid (HLTAID011)
  • Provide Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (HLTAID009)
  • Provide basic emergency life support (HLTAID010)
  • Apply OHS requirements, policies, and procedures in the construction industry (CPCCOHS2001A)
  • Prepare to work safely in the construction industry - White Card (CPCCWHS1001)
  • Use hand and power tools/handheld operations (MEM18002B)
  • Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention (10830NAT)  
  • Course in Workplace Impairment Prevention (10894NAT)
  • Bullying and Harassment and WHS Hazard Identification
  • Gender Equity Awareness- Safe and Respectful Workplaces
  • Workplace Mental Health Awareness
  • Personal Protective Equipment for each participant

Participants who successfully complete all elements of the program will be connected to Traineeship and Apprenticeship opportunities working with ATC and the Lendlease subcontractors on the new CIT Woden campus site, or alternatively, with ATC’s Host Employers at other sites.

Commencing Tuesday 11 October 2022, this 5 week program will run four days per week (Mon-Thurs, 28 hours per week) and be a combination of theory, practical hands-on learning, site tours and work preparation sessions. Classes will be located at CIT Bruce Campus.

This program was made possible through JobTrainer and is a jointly funded initiative of the ACT and Australian Governments. Eligibility criteria applies.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for JobTrainer funding, you must at the time of enrolment be:

  • 17 years old or over
  • Living or working in ACT
  • Not enrolled in or attending secondary school or college
  • An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand passport holder resident for more than six (6) months, or a person who holds a visa that is identified as being eligible, and
  • Not completed the units of competency listed above before
  • Have an interest in the construction sector
  • To be physically fit to work in the sector
